About this deal

I also decided to add details and add a fender for these wheels. The details for the costume really make it. Before you start building the costume itself, you will have to go through a whole set of preliminary measurements and sketches to determine exactly how the costume will fit. To do this, you will need a large sheet of cardboard or paper (I used cardboard) that is big enough to crouch sideways against it (the position that your body will be in when in car mode), then crouch and have someone trace your outline onto it. The reason you do this is to be able to draw out the car profile exactly to the right size of your crouching body. You have to do a few smaller sketches on paper to cement your idea before you actually draw against the outline. Christ if it weren't for the whiny final fantasy/kingdom hearts fans, we would be THE biggest group of whiners as a whole in regards to a fan base. There will always be negative whiners, on all of the boards, but the positive folks far outweigh on here. Poke a hole on the sides (hip side). Take a metal circle washer and glue it on either side of the hole. get some string or more shoe lace and thread it through. about 4 -5 inches should do.- The washer is there so that the thread will be supported by the washer, and not the cardboard (which can easily rip through with wear/tear)..

We added squares to each side for shoulders. they do not have a top at this point in time. we added 2 styrofoam squares to have the shoulder lid rest there. (pic 1) Also, this costume doesn’t work well at all with stairs. Going up stairs is fine, but going down doesn’t work. Maybe you will be able to overcome this obstacle with your design. I’ll show you what I did right and what I did wrong. Hopefully, I can make this really easy for you. Making a Homemade Transformer Costume I’ve been seeing a few DIY converting Transformers Bumblebee costumes around the internet for a while now. Recently my son has been obsessed with Bumblebee from Transformers and while there’s always the option of buying the transforming Bumblebee costume, I decided to attempt to make the costume for him. I’m happy to report that my attempt ended up looking pretty decent. I did make the costume on the fly and eyeballed everything so there are no measurements. So this is going to be less of a tutorial and more of a guide if you want to make a DIY converting Transformers Bumblebee costume of your own. DIY Converting Transformers Bumblebee Costume The thighs are basically boxes (pic 1). They are just angled in and there is a little section cut out if you are a dude for your :;ahem:;.First thing’s first, let’s take a look at my completed DIY Converting Transformers Bumblebee Costume. Bumblebee’s calf is just a rectangle. It is just slightly wider than the strip underneath the thigh. The hood is curved so the front of the panel is curved. Now that I’m done, I wish I had the sense to just cut it straight down at an angle. It would have been so much easier and it would have looked fine. I found that it’s so much harder to work with the curved pieces. I attached the wheels to the arm hole with some tape on the inside and only at the top. This will allow the wheels to swing in when my son transforms into the robot. Be sure tape the wheels a few millimetres away from the car to allow the wheels to swing in and out. Finishing Touches I just took some styrofoam and carved and sanded it into the shape i wanted. then covered it in craft foam. (pic 4 + 5)

Learn from my mistakes* I made the opening way too big and his whole body would come right through the opening. I later added more foam pieces to the opening to make it smaller. Learn from me and make sure the opening is big enough to fit their head but not big enough that their shoulders would fit through too. Front Bumper After some tweeking, we decided to cut the shoulders off and attach them to the lid with elastic. That way, the wearer can put their arms up and down.

The second and most important element of the transformer costume is the hood and doors. The reason that this part is so important is that the hood and doors make up the main and most crucial transformation elements. When creating this part, make sure that all transformation action is sound before moving on (test multiple times). To wear the thighs, you need a belt around your waist. put on the thighs and then use the string to tie them to the belt. This way, they do not fall when you are walking around. Before painting I drew in the details in pencil to make it a little easier. Also, you don’t have to, but if you want it to look a little cleaner, this is where you want to fill in any large gaps between your pieces before painting. add an additional strip around the bottom of the thigh so that the calf piece and be attached to it. (pic 2,A)

SORRY-in the pictures one of my lights fell off…i noticed just now, If you scroll at the bottom… you’ll find links to see my costume in a better way). I added two triangular pieces to the hood opening so that it would stay open a little even when closed. Draw and Cut Wheels I placed both pieces together upright and played with the placement. The closer I put the piece together, the taller the roof of the car would curve. I ended up trimming off from of the length of the roof so that the length of the car wouldn’t be too long and the roof wouldn’t be too tall. The hood is pretty straight forward. I matched the length of the hood to the length of the hood that I had already made on my front side panel. As far as the width, I just put the board up against my son and made sure it was wider than him and he had a little space on either side. The front part of the hood comes to a point (although if it were straight across, it wouldn’t be a big deal). One of the most iconic figures in the Transformers is Bumblebee. My friend loves him as a character, so we decided to make her a costume for the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2)

I also wanted my son to have a mask and gloves for when he transforms into Bumblebee but we were sadly sold out of the Bumblebee Mask. Instead, I painted this Ant-Man mask and it came out great. I also used a pair of these toddler gloves so that my son’s hands would be covered. Final Thoughts

Headlights (I used two small bowls. You can use round tap lights, coasters, anything at all that’s heavy enough.)Head Shot wrote:for the people complaining about the wrong head, go make yourself a better full body, fully transforming bee costume then. By the way, you can get a lot of inspiration from these these cool ready-made transformer costumes!) To start off, I think you should definitely familiarize yourself with the costume. Understand all the pieces, how the costume moves, which pieces are permanently connected, which pieces swing, and which pieces should not be connected at all. I feel this step is really important so you don’t get confused along the way. I watched a ton of videos and looked at a lot of pictures of transforming costumes. Ultimately, this YouTube video from a channel called “I Am Bentley” is the one I based my costume off of. Make a cylinder out of cardboard that will hug the bottle top and is wide enough for your mini mag light to fit into. Then cut directly into the fender of the foot and glue in the cylinder. take the bottle cap and cut out the top. replace it with some blue acetate. you should be able to put the mag light in and out of the cylinder and close it with the bottle cap. (pic 4, Fig 2) For the rear bumper, trunk, and roof, I kept it as all one piece and only scored it in certain places so that it would fold the right way. I used the entire length of my foam board. Starting on one end, I measured for the height of the rear bumper, which is the same as the height of the front bumper, and I scored it on the top of the board so it would bend down. Next I made a line for the length of my trunk, which I eyeballed about 4 inches. Here I scored underneath the board so that I could fold it up. The rest of the piece would be used for the roof of the car. Rear Side Panels
