About this deal

We got this for my 10 year old son for Christmas. First off, it is a great toy. It does however, have a couple of things that keep it from getting 5 stars. As for the Batteries, they differ with the products. All of these have different Battery Requirements and some of the companies include them with the product, while some don’t. Features Children can send BB8 outside to patrol alone, or it can be manipulated as described previously. The wristband may be utilized to boost your abilities and total different training jobs. In addition, it can be controlled with the program, such as the very first product listed here. But since this one may also be controlled from the wristband, it is ideal for people who don’t possess a compatible smart apparatus. At that time there were a lot of similar projects around, but no one of them had a "reasonable" size of the droid for me. I don't have too much space at home, therefore I have to shrink everything I want to make.

This BB8 robot toy creates 14 distinct sounds that your child will love. It is 17 inches tall, which makes it ideal for young kids to control. The distant layout is easy, with just two buttons making it effortless for young children to learn how to utilize. There’s but one frequency on this particular toy, so it is not feasible to utilize two together. At the 0:35 second mark in your video tutorial, BB-8's head moves independent of the body. I thought that this build didn't support that behavior. Was this an enhancement for Version 2.0, or was the body being held in place off-camera while the internal mechanism moved? At this stage the unit should work already (using just the planet). so you can start to have some fun with the RC ball you've just made. These Remote Control Droids come in a few different sizes. Mostly though, they follow the same theme of being small and compact. That helps in their usability if you are short on space around your house. This is an excellent, funding BB8 remote control robot. Whilst it doesn’t have the exact interactive features as other goods, it has lots to offer for Star Wars fans. It’s controlled with the included remote and needs batteries it isn’t rechargeable. This is among many ideal presents for your dad, uncle, nephew, cousin, brother or boyfriend. For anybody, it’s the perfect relay. This distinctive Fight Edition BB-8 comprises a is Force Band harmonious with the device, so it’s possible to command, pull or push it without difficulties. The Droids meant for younger kids tend to be straightforward but end up being uninteresting for older audiences but if you want a more complex device, they tend to be harder to learn for the younger generation. Size

Hopefully, the BB-8's voice commands will come to Android users in future updates. As of now, they're only available on iOS. But Android users shouldn't be too jealous since the voice commands are relegated to very basic actions in response to quotes from Star Wars movies. Saying, "It's a trap," for instance, into your mobile device's microphone makes the BB-8 roll away in another direction. While the commands work, they're also so sensitive that any random sound will activate them. I entered the contest: "Sensors" as I've used 4 tilt switches (SW-520D), to control BB8 using the movement of my arm. Please vote for me! The toy rolls around virtually like in the pictures – young children will be interested to see him go around the room. In general, this really is the excellent first Star Wars-themed remote control toy for young kids. FAQ What was the size of the sphere you used for the main "eye" lens? And how did you do the embellishment around it? last year I made a fully working RC version of BB8 using Lego Star Wars parts, so I thought it was time to show my "calvary"... ehm, better to say the process I went through, to make this cute droid. When you finish to join the axles, you should glue to the body the bush for cross axle and the extension (like shown in the pictures). Due to the limitation of materials, I resorted in using the materials around me. (deodorant roll-ons as ball bearings, canvas as fiberglass, Christmas balls as the eye & etc.. ). A lot of people could relate to this. My approach on building the project doesn't require 3D printers, CNCs or Milling Machines! If you’re searching for the fantastic Star Wars toy for a young enthusiast, this is a fantastic selection. It’s inflatable, which means that you do not need to be concerned about damaging the toy or your home once it crashes into furniture and walls. List the servo you used for the head rotation. It is visible in the video, but it might be nice to write it down. Ditto with the smoothing putty.

The Hero BB-8 also comes with another neat feature that is termed “Follow Mode”. Which, unlike any other Droid on this list, makes the Hero follow you around. The only thing you need to have with you is the Droid’s remote, and if you do. You have your personal companion. There are motor and wheels inside the droid’s body. It uses gyroscope technology that keeps the balance in the toy. There’s also a magnetic attachment that keeps the droid’s head on the top. How do you power the RC BB8 toy? Don't rush doing this process, otherwise you'll melt the holes of the gear box, making it unusable. The manufacturers of this product recommend it for kids from 5 years of age and above. This item contains tiny bits that can be dangerous for younger kids. Can you connect the BB8 robot toy to the Sphero application? Between the receiver and the chassis of the car there is exactly the space required to insert the Lego axle 6, that you can join to the axle 4, using the axle extension 2M. I did some tests with the axle 10 but it flexes, because of the weight, so the lead/sinkers rub against the inner surface of the planet. It's a matter of millimeters. In general, this is a good BB8 robot for younger kids, but older children and teenagers might get bored fast because of their limited capabilities. It’s excellent for kids aged five or four around approximately nine years of age. The remote is simple to use, using two buttons, which makes it easy for young children to learn.

Some have a recommended age for kids 3+ while some say 8 or above. This changes depending on the learning curve of the devices, durability, and the Hazards that they can cause. The other issue is that you have to be somewhat careful to avoid big bumps. My son was trying to go from the kitchen floor into the living room, and hit a bump pretty hard. This caused BB-8 to stop working, and the only way to get it started again was to take the batteries out and re-insert them. This is only happened one time, and since then we've been more careful not to hit the bumps. This is an excellent, interactive BB8 robot toy that could be controlled by means of a wristband worn with your little one. In addition, it can react to 10 distinct voice commands – that can be a very advanced toy that can give any kid years of pleasure. Though this may come as a surprise to all of you but the movie screen, was not where the BB-8 Droids were first born. Rather the credit goes to Sphero as they had been working on a real-life model for the droid with Disney, as early as 2014!Awesome project! I can't wait to see your Version 2.0 and the improvements you've made, especially in using a Raspberry Pi. I will definitely be building one of my own in the future. I have a few suggestions on improvements of the walkthrough that I hope you take into consideration:
